Care and Maintenance

McGuire GrandView® Special Finish Series — Care and Maintenance Instructions

GrandView Special Finish products are manufactured with premium decorative finishes designed to provide lasting beauty when properly maintained. Decorative finishes require more careful cleaning than standard unfinished metal surfaces.

Follow these instructions to protect the appearance and durability of your GrandView product.

General Care Instructions

  • Clean the finished surfaces regularly using warm water, a mild pH-neutral liquid soap, and a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
  • Apply a small amount of diluted mild soap to a soft cloth.
  • Gently wipe the finished surface.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue.
  • Dry immediately with a separate soft, clean cloth.
  • Whenever possible, wipe the product dry after use to help prevent water spotting, mineral deposits, and soap buildup.
  • Do not spray cleaning products directly onto the product. Apply an approved cleaning solution to the cloth first.
  • When cleaning sinks, countertops, walls, floors, or surrounding fixtures, protect GrandView products from overspray, splashing, fumes, and runoff from other cleaning chemicals.

Do Not Use

Do not clean GrandView Special Finish products with:

  • Abrasive powders, creams, pads, sponges, brushes, or polishing compounds
  • Steel wool, scouring pads, or melamine cleaning pads
  • Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners
  • Ammonia or ammoniated cleaners
  • Alcohol, solvents, or astringent cleaners
  • Acidic cleaners, including cleaners containing hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, phosphoric, sulfuric, or similar acids
  • Caustic or highly alkaline cleaners
  • Rust, lime, calcium, or tarnish-removal products
  • Tile, grout, toilet bowl, drain, oven, or industrial-strength cleaners
  • Metal polish, chrome polish, brass polish, or automotive wax unless specifically approved by McGuire
  • Cleaning products containing abrasives or unidentified chemical ingredients

Do not allow cleaners, soap, toothpaste, personal-care products, standing water, or mineral deposits to remain on the surface for an extended period.

PVD Finishes

Applicable GrandView PVD finishes include:

  • Matte Black PVD
  • Brushed Gold PVD
  • Brushed Nickel PVD
  • Brushed Stainless PVD
  • Polished Brass PVD
  • Polished Nickel PVD

PVD finishes provide excellent resistance to tarnishing, staining, and normal wear. However, the finish can still be damaged by aggressive chemicals, abrasives, hard objects, or improper cleaning.

Clean PVD finishes only with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry after cleaning.

For brushed finishes, wipe gently in the direction of the visible grain. Do not scrub across the grain.

Do not use tarnish removers, metal polishes, rust removers, bleach, acids, or abrasive cleaners on PVD surfaces.

Powder-Coated Finishes

Applicable GrandView powder-coated finishes include: Matte Black.

Powder-coated finishes may be scratched, scuffed, chipped, or dulled by abrasive materials and harsh cleaning chemicals.

Clean gently with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Do not scrub the surface.

Avoid striking the product with tools or hard objects during installation and maintenance. If the coating is scratched or chipped, the underlying material may become visible and may be subject to discoloration or corrosion.

Do not attempt to polish or buff a powder-coated finish.

Bronze and Decorative Plated Finishes

Applicable GrandView decorative finishes may include: Venetian Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze.

Bronze and decorative plated finishes may include hand-applied coloring, relief, or a protective topcoat. Minor variations in color, shading, and appearance are normal characteristics of decorative finishes.

Clean only with mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry immediately.

Do not use metal polish, brass polish, tarnish remover, abrasive cleaners, or abrasive pads. These products may alter the color, remove highlighted areas, damage the protective coating, or create an uneven appearance.

If the protective coating is scratched or damaged, the underlying material may gradually oxidize or change color.

Depending upon the specific finish construction, some decorative bronze finishes may naturally change in appearance over time. Such changes may be considered normal aging rather than a manufacturing defect.

Chrome-Plated Finishes

Clean chrome-plated surfaces using mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to reduce water spotting and mineral buildup.

Do not use bleach, acids, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, or industrial cleaning chemicals. These materials may dull, discolor, pit, or remove the chrome plating.

Protect chrome-plated products from cleaners used on tile, grout, countertops, floors, and nearby surfaces.

Removing Water Spots

For light water spots:

  • Wet a soft cloth with warm water.
  • Allow the damp cloth to rest briefly on the affected area.
  • Wipe gently without scrubbing.
  • Dry immediately with a clean, soft cloth.

Do not use lime removers, calcium removers, vinegar, acidic solutions, or abrasive compounds unless specifically authorized in writing by McGuire Manufacturing.

Persistent mineral deposits may indicate that the product is not being dried regularly or that the water has a high mineral content.

Installation and Construction Protection

Keep all GrandView products in their protective packaging until they are ready to be installed.

During installation:

  • Use clean tools and clean gloves.
  • Protect finished surfaces from wrenches, pliers, metal tools, adhesives, sealants, flux, solder, and construction debris.
  • Do not place tools directly against a finished surface.
  • Remove excess sealant or installation residue promptly using only methods approved by the sealant manufacturer and McGuire.
  • Do not use abrasive pads or solvents to remove installation residue.
  • Keep protective films or coverings in place when other construction work is occurring nearby.

After installation, thoroughly rinse and dry the product before placing it into service.

Important Notice

Damage caused by improper cleaning, abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, environmental exposure, installation damage, or failure to follow these care instructions may not be covered under the McGuire product warranty.
